Student-Centered Course Design

This asynchronous course is offered on Canvas to all instructors, but particularly those beginning their teaching journey. I was asked to complete Module 2, which highlights key research from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and how it applies to course design. Below is an outline of the module that was eventually moved to Canvas, along with its two main lecture components.

This first lecture activates James Lang's Small Teaching, and invites instructors to reflect on how they can provide opportunities for Prediction, Retrieval Practice, and Connection in their classroom.

This second, shorter lecture interrogates ideas around Active Learning and the Lecture. It uses the text Dynamic Lecturing to support a marriage of the two, using Active Learning breaks during the traditional lecture.
