EQUITY IN ELL

This proposed workshop is based on an observed inequity in ELL classrooms that include students with diverse native languages and cultures. The issue identified is a subtle and nuanced symptom of the cultural systems and expectations in place in our American classrooms. While typically unnoticed, my DEI training allowed me to perceive the aspect as it related to the whole of the ELL experience. Drawing on research around Hofstede's cultural dimensions, the presentation applies this framework to the classroom and poses an actionable solution for addressing these cultural dynamics.
